YOGA AND CHRISTIANITY?

A pair of articles appear in the Charlotte Observer this weekend (see above) which discuss the nature of yoga and its juxtaposition within Christendom. This actually reminds me of the classic argument about the inclusion of rock music within the Christian faith.

As for yoga, 'exercise is exercise,' to a degree -- but it depends on what else is taught with it. That's my opinion, and I'm a-stickin' to it. :)

Speaking of controversial topics, I come across the article on Gene Edwards supposedly debunking the submission of women. I'm not sure I buy it (I haven't seen his arguments entirely) but there it is.

State leaders within USSPN have listed the following as the prayer topics: Breaking down walls dividing the church such as race, religion and rituals so that the people can see the glory of God through our unity operating through diversity. Ken Garfield (Charlotte Observer) reports: So how much free gas did WRCM New Life Christian Radio give away last Saturday when it spent two hours pumping 91.9 seconds of gas into each vehicle that came for the promotion? The station -- heard at 91.9 FM -- pumped more than 3,200 gallons. How much could station announcers pump in 91.9 seconds? About 10 gallons.

NEEDS: WLFJ Ministries August Update
In Psalm 34 it says to praise the Lord at all times.  Jesus is worthy of all praise.  He has given us many reasons to give Him thanks and praise.  Last night I sent out an email asking volunteers to pray for a provision of food for today.  The crowds have been large this week, and the food in the CRC was very low.  Several volunteers came in today with food from their pantries to help restock shelves.    A small Church donated $100 in canned goods so there would be stocked shelves for our needy communtiy. (There are now 5 or 6 cans leftover after a full day of ministry.)   Praise the Lord our Provider!! On Friday a regular shopper (fellow believer) came in asking for prayer.  She had been in the week before asking for prayer over her family because of the evil on the streets in their neighborhood.  Through her tears she shared with a volunteer in the prayer center that her son had been killed this week.  She was coming to simply ask for prayer in her  time of need.  As the volunteer ministered to her the presence of the Lord was amazing.  Jesus touched her.  She experienced His peace, presence, and comfort.  As the volunteer prayed encouraging her to let go of the pain and put it all under the blood, not trying to understand or make sense of it, just leave it with Jesus--she did.  God had worked a miracle.  Yet, there was another miracle about to happen.  The man waiting after her for prayer (also a believer) told the volunteer that he wanted to forget all the things he came in to receive and just receive the kind of prayer ministry that this lady had received.  He was experiencing God's call on his life to surrender.  As they prayed, God challenged him to go the neighborhood where this son was killed to witness and minister to those caught in satan's evil trap.  He accepted the challenge.  What a humbling experience it was to realize the powerful moving of the Spirit in the lives of these two hurting people.  If you looked around at the circumstances of the day, it was a hot, sweaty, busy day.  If you look with spiritual eyes, you see the redeeming work of God taking what was a senseless death and turning it around for Kingdom purposes.  Praise the Lord with us for His goodness, comfort, and redemption . On Wednesday a lady named JoAnne came using a walker because of a stroke.  She recently have been living in the homeless shelter.  JoAnne received Christ, and left the CRC with Jesus, with hope, and with many needed resources.  Praise the Lord!! Thank you to all who have volunteered this week.  Thank you to Christ Covenant Church of Raleigh for heading up the ministry at the CRC today and bringing so many volunteers with a heart to do whatever was needed. Step #1: Simply show-up and volunteer on-the-spot ANYTIME 10-4 M-S. Upon arrival you'll be asked to sign the "On-The-Spot Volunteer Agreement" providing limited service until you go through volunteer orientation.
Step #2: Sign-up and attend volunteer orientation ASAP.
Step #3: Get on the volunteer schedule. Historically, those that do not schedule their service end up not serving.

NEED: Volunteers for Habitat for Humanity
Big Need-- Office help: If you are able to come in Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday between 9am and 5pm, we always need help with data entry and other basics like filing, making calls, etc. A commitment of at least 3 hours once per week works best. ReUse Volunteering: The ReUse Center has  two needs . 1) A customer service person is needed for Saturdays, 8:30AM - 5PM at least once per month. You would learn the ropes at the center and help the staff on their busiest day of the week.  2 ) General help on weekdays, any time 9AM to 6PM, particularly with processing incoming wood donations. A regular commitment here would also be great but not required. Please let us know if any of these opportunities sound of interest-- our ReUse Center is growing and really needs volunteer support. Lunches on Saturday - we need lunches for almost every Saturday. If you make approximately 20 lunches, that is plenty to feed one house worth of Saturday volunteers. Anything is fine-- just make sure you make it fairly substantial-- good to bring some extra sandwiches just in case. Also good if you can do drinks, napkins, utensils, etc. Just let me know if you want to pick a date and I can assign you to a site. )NEED: TVCF Food Pantry Needs Donations
The Triangle Vineyard Christian Fellowship operates a food pantry in the building behind the Vineyard Cafe (3915 Western Blvd, Raleigh). The Pantry provides food for many of the neighbors in the nearby Kentwood area. If you would like to help, you may bring canned goods or other non-perishable foods to the Cafe the next time you stop in. If you would like to know more about the Pantry, go to their website.
